Kansas City, KS – Witness history in the making as state and local officials, Flying Truss stakeholders, investors, and corporate and community leaders break ground for the Rock Island Bridge, America’s first entertainment district and trailhead over a river. Media is invited to attend the event kicking off this momentous infrastructure renewal project unlike the world has ever seen.
The ground breaking ceremony will feature a “Golden Spike” event, toasts and brief remarks from Kansas, Governor Laura Kelly, Kansas City, Kansas Mayor Tyrone Garner, Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Joe Reardon, Kansas Chamber of Commerce President Daniel Silva, and Flying Truss CEO Mike Zeller.
Set to open in spring 2024, Rock Island Bridge will span the size of three football fields and include event spaces, community areas, bars, kitchens, coffee shops, public seating, restrooms, live entertainment and more.

Enter on east side of bridge, across from Hy-Vee Arena
PARKING: Please park in the North Lot of Hy-Vee Arena and make the short 2-minute walk to the Rock Island Bridge. Please be aware that this is an active construction zone. There are uneven walking surfaces and heavy equipment on site, thus proper footwear is required (flat shoes only, no open-toe shoes). Please walk only in designated areas.
