Riverside, Mo. (June 20, 2023)—Complete Home Concepts, a Riverside-based home products and improvement company, donated and installed an outdoor kitchen for the firefighters of the Riverside Fire Department. Jeff Goodwin, Complete Home Concepts president, attended a city council meeting where firefighters shared their appreciation for the new outdoor living space.
“Three months ago, Keith Payne, the fire marshal, came into our showroom looking for a grill on a cart for the fire house. I asked him to follow me outside where we had an outdoor kitchen on display that we were going to replace,” Goodwin explains. “Keith said the department couldn’t afford it. Donating an outdoor kitchen wasn’t something we’d planned to do, but it certainly felt right and made sense at that moment. I told Keith we’d be happy to donate it.”
With an outdoor kitchen being far from Payne’s original idea of a grill, a concrete foundation large enough to accommodate the new kitchen had to be poured at the fire house. The Complete Home Concepts team had to create solutions to work around fixtures that had to stay, such as sewer cleanouts and vents.
The outdoor kitchen includes an extra spacious grill with plenty of room to cook for 10 to 12 people, an outdoor seating area, extra outlets to accommodate kitchen appliances, a flat top griddle for maximum outdoor cooking versatility, and granite and stone surfaces chosen by the fire fighters themselves.
Goodwin says, “Fire fighters work hard and are on duty at the station 24/7 for days in a row. Since the kitchen has been installed, we’ve heard it’s being used daily. With the addition of the flat top griddle, it’s perfect for breakfast, lunch and dinner.”
Brian Koral, Riverside city administrator, reached out to Goodwin requesting he attend a Riverside city hall meeting. Goodwin, not one to step into the spotlight, hesitantly agreed. That evening, fire fighters arrived to personally thank Goodwin for Complete Home Concepts’ donation.
